Motorbikes
During this trip, you will ride on a Yamaha 250 TTR motorbike or a similar type of motorbike. You can upgrade to a Suzuki 350 DR-SE.
Difficulty and Offroad
You will encounter neither high altitudes nor extreme weather conditions on this trip. We ride on good to very poor quality asphalt roads. We also ride a third of the total distance on unpaved roads. The quality of these roads varies. When it has rained, these roads can get quite slippery.
Accommodation
During this trip, we stay in midrange hotels. Sometimes these are the best in town but still very basic. Tourism in Togo and Benin is almost non-existing, so there are only local hotels available. Be prepared.
Climate
Dry season in Togo and Benin is from November to February. The chance of rain during this time is considerably lower and the intensity of the showers is low. Precipitation increases after April and continues through September.
Clothing
Mandatory items of clothing include a helmet, protective motorcycle jacket, gloves, a good strong pair of protective motorcycle trousers or trousers with loose knee armour/protectors and sturdy high (mountain) boots. We also recommend having a good pair of sunglasses and a helmet with a visor, which will protect against dust and gravel.
Insurance
Motorbikes are covered by a third party insurance. This insurance covers physical damage to
third parties. Material damage to third parties cannot be insured in Togo and Benin. Damage to the motorbike is not covered by the basic insurance. Damage caused by yourself to the motorbike is for your own account.
Visa
For most nationalities you need a visa for Togo and Benin before your arrival.
