Colombia Highlights

Motorcycle

During this trip, you will ride a Honda XR150cc. An upgrade to Honda XRE300cc is possible.

Insurance
The motorcycles are equipped with standard third-party insurance. This insurance covers physical damage to third parties. Material damage to third parties is not insurable in Colombia. Damage to the engine is not covered by the basic insurance. Damage caused to the engine by yourself is at your own expense.

Difficulty of the journey
During this trip through Colombia, we drive through very varied areas and climate zones. Sometimes the route goes on good asphalt roads, on sandy paths in the hot flat countryside, but also on stony mountain roads through the tropical forests and on gravel roads with mountain passes of over 4000 meters.  However, we do not spend the night at a very high altitude. The daily distances are sometimes long, but usually, there is enough time to make time for nice stops along the way.

About half of the route is on dirt roads. Most roads are not difficult to drive, but some routes are tough without off-road experience. We therefore recommend that you follow a basic off-road training course for this trip. On-site, you can always choose to skip a tough route by following the easier variant together with the support car.  However, the trip is not suitable for beginners.  The bikes are light and agile Enduros.

Overnight stays
We spend the night in mid-range hotels. These are reasonable hotels in Colombia with mostly private bathroom and toilet. Since the temperatures can rise quite a bit, hot water is not always available as standard. The hotel in Pueblo Bello is simple and in Juan de Acosta the eco-hostel has 3 spacious rooms with mezzanines, but the location and ambiance here are unique.

Clothing
A helmet is mandatory, as well as protective clothing with protectors, good gloves, and boots or sturdy shoes. Due to the warm temperature in the north, it is advisable to bring breathable protective clothing. In the mountains you need warmer clothing, here it sometimes doesn't get warmer than 15 degrees during the day.  It is also advisable to bring a light rain suit for the mountains. We recommend wearing an open Enduro helmet with goggles that seal snugly against the dust

Visa
You do not need to apply for a visa for Colombia in advance. Upon arrival at the airport, you will receive a stamp on your passport that allows you to stay in the country for three weeks.

Safety
Colombia is not the country of FARC. Yes, that's right, and FARC is still active, but much less than years ago and only in areas surrounded by the army. We don't come here, and we don't want to come here. The army knows very well where the rebels are and then closes this area to foreigners, so it is not possible to enter a risk area.

More details about the trip and what to bring with you can be found in the travel handbook that you will receive about a month before departure.
