Motorcycles
During the Costa Rica motorcycle trip we ride Honda Tornado 250cc motorcycles. For an additional charge you can rent a Honda NX4 Falcon, Suzuki DR650 or Kawasaki KLR650.
Difficulty of the trip
During this trip through Costa Rica we do not reach high altitudes, except for the first day, when we reach 3500 meters and we do not drive through extremely deserted areas. The daily distances are not long, so there is plenty of time and opportunity to stop along the way to take photos or visit villages.
Off Road
About 20% of the motorcycle journey is on unpaved roads and/or paths. These routes are not very difficult and can be done without any off-road experience or off-road training in advance. But if the weather is worse than expected, these off-road days will become very difficult.
Climate
Costa Rica has a very long and intensive rainy season. The dry season is from December to April. But it can also rain a little during these months. especially in the area of Tortuguero/La Fortuna. We organize this trip in January or February, these months have the greatest chance of dry weather. If it has rained, the journey suddenly becomes much more intensive and fun off-road trails can turn into difficult sections. Temperatures of 30 -35 degrees are common all year round on the coast. However, in the mountains it can cool down considerably, especially in the evening.
Clothing
A helmet, motorcycle jacket with protective gloves, good sturdy (motorcycle) trousers with protection or with loose knee protection and sturdy high (mountain) shoes are mandatory. It can get very hot in the lower parts of the journey. A summer motorcycle jacket with protection is therefore recommended. On colder parts of the mountains you can wear extra clothing under your jacket if necessary. Good sunglasses are also useful and a helmet with a visor that protects against dust. We plan our trips in the driest season, but because it can sometimes rain during these periods, a light rain suit is also recommended.
Motorcycle rental
As a deposit for the motorcycle, each motorcyclist will be left with a signed credit card form:

This amount will not be debited from the credit card, it is the maximum amount that will be charged in the event of an accident and/or damage to the motorcycle.
