Physical challenges
The bad roads (especially after rainfall) can make the trip quite difficult. However, these are only a few days.  Altitude is not worth mentioning.

Overnight stays
With a few exceptions you will stay in comfortable middle class hotels during this trip or tented camps.

Climate
In Zambia, Malawi and the small part of Mozambique that we travel through, most precipitation falls in summer and the wettest month is at least ten times as wet as the driest month in winter. From the end of October, the chances of precipitation increase and the months of December, January and February are downright wet. The amount of precipitation decreases in March, after which the dry winter arrives in April.

Off Road
For the most part we ride on good gravel roads and asphalt roads of varying quality. Gravel roads can be slippery after rainfall.

Insurance
It is possible to take out extra insurance for the motorcycle. This insurance covers damage to the motorbike as well as damage to third parties.

Clothing
Mandatory items of clothing: a helmet, protective motorcycle jacket, gloves, a good strong pair of protective motorcycle trousers or trousers with loose knee armour/protectors, and sturdy high (mountain) boots. We also recommend a breeze-through summer motorcycle jacket with protection. That way you can wear extra clothing underneath you jacket if needed during colder parts in the mountains. Also important are a good pair of sunglasses and a helmet with visor which will protect against dust and gravel.

Driving license
A valid motorcycle driving license is required for this trip.

Visa
A visa requirement applies to Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique, it is advisable to arrange this before departure.

More details about the trip and items to bring can be found in the tour’s handbook which you will receive approx. one month prior to departure.
